Reading and Preaching through the Bible in 2012

January 9, 2012

This year I am encouraging everyone in our church to make daily Bible reading a priority in 2012. I would be delighted if every one of us could read the Bible from cover to cover this year. I have made available a Bible reading schedule that will keep us all on the same page. You can download the schedule by clicking this 2012 Bible Reading Plan. There are a variety of worthy Bible reading plans that are available. This particular plan is arranged in canonical order from Genesis to Revelation. One of the advantages of this plan is that you can focus on the context of each reading by staying in one book at a time. In order to keep us accountable, motivated, and informed I will be preaching through the Bible in keeping with the schedule. Each Sunday, I will have a message (or messages) that relate to that week’s Bible reading schedule. These messages will take a variety of forms. On some Sundays I might preach an entire book of the Bible, focusing on the book’s main themes and theological message. Other Sundays I might bring an expositional sermon from one particular text from that week’s readings. I might also focus on a particular theme that arises in the readings and trace it through the Bible. I pray that our readings and the messages that I preach will drive us deeper into the Scriptures and thereby grow in our knowledge of our great and glorious God who delivers us from our sins and gives us new life through his Son, Jesus.
